Aprilaire Model 600

by Erin Moore
(Gardner, KS)

We moved into our house in June of 2006 and were informed that we had a humidifier. Unfortunately we didn't have a manual so it took awhile in the winter before we figured out how to use it.

Then, we had to find a new filter for it. We went to every store in town that carried humidifier filters and each store was sold out.

It took a couple weeks before we finally found one. Once we had the new filter in and had gotten the manual off the internet we turned it on.

This is the first house we've had that had a humidifier and I wasn't real sure what it was supposed to do. One of the problems with this unit is that you have to manually adjust the setting based on the outside temperature.

Well, we live in an area where the temperature at night can be around 0 and the daytime can get up to 50 degrees.

So, I would have to constantly change the setting. Most of the time we just keep it around 35 degrees. I'm still not totally sure what it does, but I do know that when it is working we sometimes have condensation on the windows.

I think it has also helped a little in keeping the air less dry. My daughter suffers from nose bleeds in the winter, and when the humidifier is on and working she seems to have fewer nose bleeds.

We have a large house, and I can't be sure this unit is the right one for our house, but it seems to be ok.

The main complaint is the difficulty in finding the filters and the high cost. I would overall say this unit is good.
