It was one very hot day about 3 years ago that I ended up having to purchase a window air conditioner unit. My central air conditioner broke down and the repairman said it was going to be at least 3-5 days before they could get the parts in to fix it. We live in a one story house that is 1640 square feet. The temperatures were close to 100 degrees that day and I had two children to keep cool.

I decided I was going to run down to Lowes and buy a window air conditioner unit to help cool the house until the parts for my central unit came in. My husband was deployed to Iraq at the time and I had absolutely no idea how to buy an air conditioner, much less install it in a window. Luckily it was towards the end of summer and Lowe's didn't have very many air conditioners to choose from because they are seasonal items. I ended up picking out the biggest one I could afford at the time. It is a Frigidaire 15,100 BTU window air unit. It came complete with a window kit and a remote, which I thought was pretty cool. I called a friend of mine who lived down the road and asked her if she knew how to put in a window unit. She said she thought we could figure it out together. It was not hard at all to install. Of course we didn't want to permanently put it in the window so we propped it up on saw horses outside the window instead of installing the bracket to hold it into place. It worked out perfectly. The instructions were easy to understand and we had it in the window in no time, turned on and cooling the house down.

The Frigidaire unit that I picked out ended up being an excellent choice. It has many features including an energy saving mode. It has a timer, sleep button and auto temp button for whatever your need may be. The temperature reading is digital and the unit can be used in a fan only mode as well. The remote control that came with it can be used to operate all of the controls on the air conditioner. It has a check filter button to let you know when it is time to clean it. The filter is reusable and can be washed or vacuumed and put back into place.

This window air unit worked excellent. I turned on fans in every room and ran the window unit and it kept the whole house comfortable while I was waiting on the parts for my central unit to come in. I was going to sell the unit after I used it that one time, but it worked so good that I decided to keep it for emergencies. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone who relies solely on a window unit to cool their house. I have lived in places before that had window air conditioner units but this is by far the best window unit I have ever used.
