Efficiency
This is a 5,200 BTU, energy efficient air conditioner, which works most effectively when cooling rooms of about 200 square feet.It is ENERGY STAR ® compliant and has also been labeled by Consumer Research best buy!
NOTE on ENERGY STAR ® IF a product meets the ENERGY STAR specifications and IF the manufacturer of that product applies to be an ENERGY STAR ‘partner’ - by meeting all the required criteria outlined by ENERGY STAR, THEN the product can be labeled with the ENERGY STAR logo. There are a range of settings on the user-friendly control panel, which can be used to maximize the units’ energy saving function and efficiency.
It is wise to carefully work out the room size and other factors. A useful website which helps to calculate the size of A/C required, can be found at:-http://www.csgnetwork.com/acroomsizecalc.html
Touch Pad Controls
There are many ways to control the unit using either the single-touch pad, electronic controls or the full-function remote controlThe digital display window can be set to respond the built-in thermostat. In addition, an 8-way air direction option,to control which direction the air is circulated and variable fan speeds may also be selected.
The easy to use on/off switch allows the unit to beleft running indefinitely, if required.
A great feature is the clean air button , which controls a little electric air purifier in the unit – a valuable addition for people with allergies and respiratory complaints.
A mode selection button , controls one of three options:- ‘cool’, ‘energy saver’ and ‘fan only’. The ‘cool’ mode is an ideal choice fornight-time use, because the fan is on ‘low’ speed, thus minimizing any noise.
Should the air conditioner fail to switch on for any reason, there is an electrical reset button which can be used in an emergency.
One safety feature of the ‘cool’ function, which prevents the air conditioner from accidentally overheating is an automatic three minute delay, which is activated should the unit be turned off an on quickly.
The unit also has a remote electronic temperature controls. (see‘Remote Control’below)
Remote Control
The unit has a full- function, hand-held remote electronic temperature control, with ‘sleep,’ ‘timer’ and ‘fan only’ settings, making temperature and fan control much easier from a distance away. However the timer settings are limited to half-hour increments.NOTE The remote electronic temperature controls can ONLY be activated from the remote control and the unit MUSTbe in a cooling mode.
Variable Speed Fan
There are many benefits with the variable speed fan, which can be set from 10 to 99. While a faster fan is ideal in cooling a room quickly, a slower one would be the choice to reduce noise at night-time.The ‘fan only’ function allows the air to be circulated without it being cooled, while the thermostatically controlled ‘energy saver’ option switches the unit on or off, depending on the temperature selected.
Internal Thermostat
The built in thermostat as many options on regulating the temperature, which include a number of energy saving advantages. It can be set from 60°F (16°C) to 90°F (32°C).An energy efficient mode turns off the cooling system when the required temperature is reached – however the fan continues to run for an further2-3 minutes, to keep the air moving over the cold compressor.
After a further 10 minutes the fan is reactivated again for another 2-3 minutes. This process continues, intermittently, until the room temperature gradually increases, when the compressor starts its cooling work again.
Sleep Button
There is a sleep button that works with the thermostat settings, designed to ensure more efficient sleep.Once the sleep the button is pressed, the unit continues to operate for 30 minutes, after which the thermostat is raised by 2 degrees. Following a further 30 minutes the temperature is once again raised by 2 degrees.
The unit thermostat continues operating at this higher level for the next 7 hours, before automatically turning off the sleep mode and reverting to the original thermostat setting.
Clean Air Button
A valuable feature is the clean air button, which switches on an electric air purifier in the unit. This clean air filtration system gives relief to people suffering from hay fever or similar allergies and respiratory aliments. It also can help to prevent dehydration, headaches and nausea.
Both negative ion generators and electrostatic filter elements are used in the unit and help to lessen or eliminate airborne particles like pollen and dust spores from the air being breathed in.
Noise
As with all A/C units, a whole range of strange ‘noises’ are present, each of which is linked with a particular process or program and is part of the normal operating process.- Gurgle/Hiss - linked to theto theevaporator during normal operation
- Sound of Rushing Air- - linked to the movement of the fan
- High Pitched Chatter- - linked to the compressor’scooling cycle
- Loud beep- - linked to pressing the control settings
- Pinging or Swishing- - due to droplets of water hittingcondenser during normaloperation
- Vibration- - may be linked to poor wall or window construction or incorrect installation
Air Filters
The unit has a tilt-out filter access feature designed to make filter cleaning easy.Air filers should be checked on a monthly basis, as dust spores and other particles and fibers can cause a build-up of frost in the ‘cooling coils’, which can adversely affect performance.
Air filers usually need to be changed once a year and reusable filters can be rinsed clean under the tap.
Washing the air filters using dishwashing detergent is suggested but warm water but should be used to thoroughly rinse and dry the filters before they are replaced. Alternatively, filters can be vacuumed clean.
A useful feature is a filter light, which turns on as a reminder to change the filter. The unit runs for approximately 250 hours before the filter light switches on
Safety
The unitis designed with low-voltage protection, which helps it deal with ‘brown-outs’ and other power-fluctuationsThere is a caution against using ‘test’ and ‘reset’ buttons to control the operation and a warning not to place furniture in front of the unit.
