Frigidaire FAA055P7A Compact Small-Room Air Conditioner with Remote Control

I bought this air conditioner because it was the first one that came up on Amazon and at around $160 it is very affordable. I have a smaller (175 sq ft.) room that gets a lot of direct sunlight and can get very hot in the New England summer. This unit fit nicely into my window, and even though my room is slightly larger than the unit recommends it has performed admirably.

The remote control helps greatly when I am in bed or do not want to get up from my desk to change the settings, and works even from across the room. After turning this unit on, the room becomes noticeably cooler within minutes, and the temperature can be brought down even on the hottest of days to a comfortable temperature very quickly.

The unit also works great as a fan to circulate air around the room, even when it is not hot enough to merit a full-scale air conditioning. This is great for spring or fall nights when it gets to be just a little uncomfortable, and open windows and fans are the key to a good night’s sleep.

All in all, I would highly recommend this air conditioning unit.

Great for a small sized place
by: Margaret

I purchased my Frigidaire air conditioner last year in the middle of a heat wave, when there were not a lot of models available, because other smart shoppers purchased theirs before the heat wave. The larger electronics stores and home improvement stores were all out. The only store that had air conditioners left was a small mom and pop kind of place. The air conditioner was on sale plus they gave me a very deep discount because it was a “scratch and dent.”

It arrived from the company to the store in a very banged up box and had a tiny scratch on the outer casing, that you needed a magnifying glass to see. By the time all was said and done, I got this for under $100.00 which included tax and a guy coming to my apartment to slap it in the window.

The Frigidaire quickly became my new best friend. It cooled off my studio apartment very quickly and kept it cool during a 100 + degree heat wave that lasted almost 2 weeks. The remote control is great and very easy to use. I particularly like the sleep function where you can go to bed with you room like an ice box, and it gradually kicks up the temperature 2 degrees every 30 minutes so you do not notice the room temperature change, and when you wake up it has gone back to the original room temperature that you prefer.

It is amazing how much gunk gets in the filter, and a light comes on when it has to be cleaned. Just pull it out and run it under some tap water and try not to think about all that stuff could be in your lungs. Cleaning the vents is a little bit more tricky and I find that using rubbing alcohol and some cotton swabs work best to really get in there and get the funky stuff out of there. There are 3 different fan speeds and you can run the air conditioner on cool, energy saver or fan only. I had that on cool the whole summer and I did not have a heart attack when the electric bill came in, so it is energy efficient.

The unit is not a total eye sore in the window and being that I live on the 10th floor of an apartment building and where I have this unit the window only looks out over an alley way, I don’t mind it taking up my “view”, so I put a cover over it and left it there all winter. That way I did not have to struggle to get it out of the window and then find somebody who could put it back.

It is a bit loud, but I think all air conditioners are loud. I do not think it would work well in a large apartment, but for my size place, it is great and was a real life saver
