geo-thermal heating and cooling
Our new home utilizes geo-thermal heating and cooling, and it’s absolutely the greatest. When we first built our home, our son-in-law told us that as far as he was concerned, geo-thermal was the only way to go.
Unfortunately, due to a lot of rain, the people who would install it weren’t able to get here to do the job before it was time for us to move in. It was the beginning of August, and temperatures had been over 100 degrees for several days in a row. We were living in our new home, but we were sweltering.
Finally the men showed up to dig the four 250’-deep holes they would need to install the pipes.
The drilling seemed to take forever, but it was finally finished. Thrilled, we turned on the thermostat, and nothing happened.
My husband looked things over and discovered that the switch had been wired wrong, and luckily he was soon able to correct that problem. The air came on, and the house immediately began to cool. We had never felt anything so lovely!
Since that time, we’ve been totally enamored of our geo-thermal system. Although it was more expensive to install initially, it is so much cheaper to operate than a system running on electricity or gas would be.
While neighbors have $250 cooling bills and $350 heating bills, our entire electric bill seldom runs much over $100, even in the coldest winter months.
The house cools evenly, and we aren’t afraid to be comfortable for fear our utility bill will get too big. We could save a lot of resources in this country if everyone went the geo-thermal route.
