Haier are proud of this mechanically controlled, family oriented air conditioner, with its modern family-look design, safety power cord to protect children, and ultra-quiet operation?.

Although not Energy Star compliant, this 5,200 BTU unit does have a high Energy Efficiency Ratio of 9.7 (EER).

It comes withan easy-to-install ?Quick-Snap" Curtain Install KitSafety; a Power Cord for the protection of children, the hydrophilic resin-coated indoor coil, which help prevents mold and corrosion forming on the inside the machine.

Other features include itstop-discharge/two-way airflow pattern, two cool settings, and two fan settings. It also has apermanent-mesh easy-access washable filter, for simple checking and cleaning.

Installation

The accompanying installation instructions encourage careful preparation and pre-planning to ensure a successful installation.

An Easy-to-Install ”Quick-Snap" Curtain Mounting Kit is supplied with all the necessary parts ready for install.

I has been pointed out that according to instruction booklet, this unit can only be installed in a double-hung windows and this is probably not the unit to choose for a wall mounting - as one customer discovered.

Most customers found the unit fairly simple to install – with one taking only 40 minutes from unpacking to setup.

One point that cannot be overstated is:- when considering installing an air conditioner, you should make sure that the size of the unit is correct for the room you're trying to cool.

Controls

This air conditioner is a mechanically operated unit, as is reflected in the design of the control panel, with its rotary thermostat know. There are only a very limited number of Haier mechanically controlled air conditioner – aselectronicallycontrolled systems are more popular.

This unit is only operatedby means of one knobandtwo switches on the control panel. It has NO electronic remote control.

A simple on/off switch turns the power on before you select any other switches and then switches it off again.

The mechanically operated ‘temperature set’ knob has 11 settings on the rotary thermostat. There are 10 cooling settings, which range from number 1 (minimum cool) to number 10 (maximum cool).

An additional option (the eleventh setting) on the thermostat knob is a ‘fan only’ setting.

Every setting on the thermostat knob has a two-speed fan option. This is activated by the SPEED switch The two options are HI speed and LOW speed. The fan speed effectively doubles the 10 thermostat options and the fan only option of the thermostat knob – as each setting has two fan speed options.

The fan speed switch isone of TWO- two-ways switches on the control panel.

The second two-way switch is the POWERswitch, whichisanON/OFF switch. If the unit is switched off or if there is a power cut / surge, you must wait three minutes before switching the unit on again.

The 2-way, air directional louvers allow you to control the direction of the airflow – which can be directed to the left or right.

Normal Operating Sounds

Airflow Movement
You will here the movement of cool air, which will get louder as the fan speed increases.

High Pitched Sound
This sound may be made by the compressor.

Rattling or Vibration
This is most likely to occur if the unit has been poorly installed through the wall or window.

Rushing Noise
This sound may be heard as the refrigerant flows through the inner sealed tubing.

Thermostat Clicks
You will hear this sound as the thermostat cycles turns on and off.

Water Sounds
As the air conditioner acts as a dehumidifier, it is normal to hear water sounds, as droplets of water fall onto the condenser.

Air Filters

The unit has an Easy-Access Washable Filter, which is simple to locate and remove.

It also has a Hydrophilic Resin-Coated Indoor Coil,- a useful feature that prevents mold and corrosion inside the machine.

Safety Precautions and Advice

Haier clearly sets out a very comprehensive and useful set of general safety precautions in its User Manual, which are designed “to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, injury or death”.

It also has a section on electrical safety, specifically relating to this particular unit.

The User Manual includes a useful table identifying the different types of fuses, electrical sockets, rated volts and amps etc., and includes a number of installation tips, an energy saving guide and a trouble shooting section.
