Haier HWR05XC6 Electronic Control Series
5,200 BTU
This low-priced electronically controlled A/C is effective,
especially when used in small, ‘low-traffic’ rooms
With a cooling output of only 5,200-BTU's, this economically priced air conditioner is idealfor a little bedroom, studio, office or for smaller-sized rooms, certainly no larger that 12? x 12?. Asmall, north facing location or a room where the door is not opened and shut frequently during its cooling program, would produce the best results.
The 2-speed fan can be run as ?fan only? to circulate air on cooler days, but is not a particularly powerful blower, even on the higher setting.
Similarly the thermostat has been known to function a little bit above the set temperature.
The unit has a remote control, which is used to adjust the settings a distance from the unit itself. However there are certain functions, which can only be switched accessedusing the remote ? which could be problematic if the batteries fail.
There is no humidifier on this model and so on humid days moisture may collect on the pan at the base of the unit ? however this does not affect the operation of the A/C.
Installation
Advertised as a thru-wall/window air conditioner, the accompanying instructions clearly statethis unit is designed for a ‘double hung window’ (iemovable top and bottom window frames). Should a built-in unit, through the wall unit be required, this one may bebest avoided. The unit comes with a window install kit, which contains all the necessary little parts that areneeded to install it.And as with installation of any A/C, it is important to follow instruction carefully, as incorrect installation can cause problems later.
The accompanying installations instructions have been described as “a little vague” and are perhaps a little more complicated than those produced by some other manufacturers.

Control Panel and Remote Control
This unit has an easy to use and simply laid out full functional wireless REMOTE CONTROL, which is used to operate the air conditioner.Theremote control only has six simple buttons which are labeled with easy to understand symbols and clear writing, but there is no digital display on this hand-set.
Underneath the remotes’on/off button are the mode button, the speed button and the timer button. Below these are up and down arrow buttons, which are used to set the timer, temperature and fan speed.
When the mode button is pressed it will change between cool and fan only.
Pressing the speed button changes the speed of the fan between high and low.
Each press of the timer button moves you from ON to OFF to CANCEL.
The arrow buttons are used to increase or decrease both the temperature and the time.
The CONTROL PANEL on the unit has a series of lights to indicate - time on/ time off/ hi speed/ low speed/fan/cool and an of-off power button.
A LED digital display on the control panel shows the °F.
When programming ‘time’ the digital displaybriefly shows the hour before reverting back to the temperature display.
However, as the power button is the ONLYswitch on the control panel, all setting have to be programmed or changed through the remote control. This could cause a difficulty if the remote’s batteries were to fail, as there is NO way to operate the unit through the control panel, other than switching the power on and off!
This A/C has almost identical general specifications found in the similar the sized Haier HWF05XC6 model. (Review this mechanically operated model on this website for a useful comparison.)
Efficiency
Though the unit has no ENERGY STAR®, it does have a EER rating of 9.7.EER stands for Energy Efficiency Ratioand tells you how efficiently an A/C turns electricity into cooling. The higher the EER rating, the more efficient the unit.
A rating of 9.7 is edging towards the upper end of the efficiency continuum, so combined with itsreasonable price, it is worth consideration.
2-Speed Fan
The unit has a two –speed fan. Pressing the fan button changes between high and low speeds.A ‘fan-only’ function can be used to circulate the air without cooling it first.
The ‘cooling’ fan can only be activated by using the remote control.
The ‘fan-only’ option canalso be turned on and off from the control panel.
Temperature and Timer
Temperature increments, which are displayed on a LED digital display window on the main control panel, gives a range between 61° and 86° and can be programmed from the remote control, using the two arrow buttons. With a simple press of the remote button the timer can be switched on or off. Indeed it can be pre-programmed to switch on or off, up to 24 hours in advance.
Air Flow
The direction of the air current can be changedto suit taste and comfort by altering the two-way airflow. The airflowcan be directed through the right or left sides of louvers, which are placed at the top of the unit.
Normal Operating Sounds
Like all A/C there are various sounds that will be heard during the normal operation of the unit. The range of sounds on this unit include:-
- Thermostat Clicks– as thermostat switches on and off
- Airflow Movement- due to fan speed
- Water Sounds– due to water falling on the condenser
- Rushing Sound– as refrigerant flows through inner sealed tubing
- Rattling Sound Or Vibrating– due to poor window/wall installation
- High Pitch Sound– due to compressor running
