Haier HWV08XC5 (Casement and Slider Series) Air Conditioner (8,000 BTU)
The airflow discharge is an all-top 4-way discharge and is described as having an Ultra-Quiet Operation.
The review of this casement / slider series of air conditioneris mainly based the manufacturers specification although there are some limited consumer ratings, which are also incorporated into this overview.
Although this air conditioner is not ENERGY STAR® compliant if does have quite a good Energy Efficiency Ratio of 9.5
It ismechanically operated with a Temperature / Thermostat knob (with a range fro m 1 to 10) and a Mode / Function knob (with 2 fan and 3 cooling options).
NOTE HWV10XC5has almost identical specifications but with 10,000-BTUs. – and slightly different wattage and weight.
Installation
This style of air conditioner is ONLY designed to be fitted into a horizontal sliding window or a casement window.The installation guide clearly list the tools needs and plainly identifies all the parts that come as part of the easy –to-install mounting kit. The instructionsoutline a 15-setp installation process.
Although the instillation instructions are adequate - some users have found a little difficulty with their installation.

Mechanical Controls
The control panel is across the top of this unit and has two simple mechanically operated knobs.The Thermostat Knob (TEMP) is rotated to adjust the air temperature. It has settings ranging from 1 to 10 where number 1 is moderate but 10 is the coolest setting.
There are six settings on the MODE knob - OFF / HIGH FAN / LOW FAN / HIGH COOL / MED COOL / LOW COOL. The high and low fan options operate the fan without any cooling while the three cool options give a cooling choice from slow fan speed to fast fan speed.
It is important to understand that the unit will NOTcool if the temperature falls below 65°F.
Also it is important to wait for 3 minutes to switch the unit on again – if it has been switched off or if there has been a power outage – as the compressor has a 3-minute compressor cycle time.
Ventilation and Air Filters
There is a ventilation lever at the bottom of the air vents which should be kept closed to maintain the best cooling conditions – however this lever may be opened to allow fresh air from the outside to be drawn in and circulated.The horizontal and vertical louvers can be moved to control the 4-way airflow.
To adjust the horizontal airflow (left/right) you need to rotate the vertical louvers.
To adjust the vertical airflow (up/down) you need to rotate the horizontal louvers.
The Easy-Access Washable Filter is simple to locate and remove, making the typically difficult task of cleaning it simple and its Hydrophilic Resin-Coated Indoor Coil helps to prevents mold and corrosion inside the machine
