Our humidifier is a Holmes Cool Mist humidifier. It has a removable water reservoir which holds enough water to sustain it for a twenty hour run time. It has two speeds, low and high, and uses a replaceable wick type filter. The humidifier has a gauge on it which tells you when the filter needs to be replaced. The replacement filters can be purchased in a store, on line or by phone.
This is an affordable humidifier. It is easily assembled, and very simple to use and maintain. The model we purchased gives us the relief we need from the dryness of the air in our home in the winter months, without taking up a lot of space.
The humidifier has a low and high setting. Since it is rather noisy on the high setting, the low setting is better for use during the day and high is best at night. We let it run overnight on high and it really helps because the extra moisture in the air makes sleeping a lot more comfortable.
The manufacturer suggests daily routine maintenance for this humidifier. They recommend rinsing out the base and tank to avoid the build up of sediment and dirt. And weekly maintenance is also recommended. For this you are instructed to wash out the base with a soft brush using a solution of undiluted vinegar. You also need to clean and disinfect the tank/water reservoir with a water and bleach solution.
There are special instructions for storing the appliance when it won’t be in use for a few days or at the end of the season. These instructions are similar to the aforementioned cleaning instructions. The wick may not be stored and reused. It must be discarded and a new one must be purchased prior to use for the next season.
A couple of things which I really like about this product are that it has a pretty nice, unobtrusive appearance and it is fairly low maintenance. On the other hand, I wish it had a reusable filter, and it would be better if it ran more quietly, particularly on the high setting.
On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best, I would rate this humidifier a 3.
