Holmes Small Room Filter-free Warm Mist Humidifier
I have the Holmes Small Room Filter-Free Warm Mist Humidifier which we use mainly in the winter.
At first I thought it was such a great idea to not have a filter to replace because filters can be quite costly. What I found out was that because we have hard water, there was gunk and scum and hard water stains throughout the inside of the machine and the tank.
I tried to clean it with vinegar because I didn’t want something that was a strong chemical to be leached in to the air. I finally gave up after several attempts at soaking and scrubbing and soaking and scrubbing.
The initial price isn’t too much and you don’t have any filters to buy-which is nice. I wouldn’t recommend this or probably any filter-free model unless you don’t have any problems with water staining or hard water. (I am not really sure what extremely soft water would do-you might have salt build up?)
It did humidify the room, so it worked well for that purpose but I would not recommend this type of room humidifier to anyone.
If you are going to buy one, stick with one with a filter or have one attached to your furnace. Or better yet, place some flowers in a bowl of water around your house as an accent/decoration and the water will evaporate in to the room and you won’t need a humidifier.
