Honeywell 17005 QuietCare Ultra Quiet Programmable True HEPA Air Cleaner with Remote Control
I have had this air purifier for about a year. Basically I am satisfied with it, and it has helped my respiratory problems considerably. The purifier has two filters, a HEPA filter and a charcoal pre-filter. The manufacturer recommends that the charcoal filter be replaced every three months, but I have found that I have to replace it every two months in order for it to stay effective. No doubt the frequency depends on the amount of use and the amount of dust in its area. The HEPA filter is to be changed every year. Both filters are very easy to replace.
One very nice feature is that there is a remote control, although it is necessary to point the control quite directly at the control panel for it to work. At one point, I thought I had lost the remote, and I contacted the manufacturer about a replacement. Fortunately, I found the remote, because the cost of the replacement was $25, which seems quite high for a simple device. There is a programming feature, but I rarely use that. I am sure it would be useful to some others. On the down side, the unit is noisy. Even with it sitting on cardboard and a towel for sound dampening, it is too loud. So I tend to run it when I am not home, so the air will be clean when I return, and run it as little as possible otherwise.
Pros
- it works and has a remote control
Cons
- noise level
- cost of replacing the remote if that became necessary
