Honeywell Enviracaire 50100 Air Purifier
We are a household that owns quite a few air purifiers due to moderate to severe allergies, so over the course of the last ten to twelve years, we’ve purchased numerous makes and models for the different areas of our house. We did a lot of research before making our purchases, since the units are cumbersome and costly and we didn’t want to waste our time getting something that wasn’t going to be appropriate or do the job.
Among other models we own, we do have two Honeywell Enviracare 50100 Air Purifiers, which I would say are our most expensive units and the best, each costing about $95. These are our two favorite, because they do such a good job of keeping the air clean. We really can tell the difference if we have it turned off for a short period of time, so we try to keep it running 24/7 (which is recommended), although I may need to try cutting back as our electricity bill continues to climb.
One of the Honeywell Enviracare units is in our family room and the other is in our bedroom. We chose this one to put in the bedroom because of the noise factor – my husband likes white noise and even though I don’t, we’ve been able to compromise at night and keep it on the low setting, which seems doesn’t impact my ability to fall asleep or stay asleep, and he’s happy. Plus, it has done an outstanding job of keeping the air clean, fresh and crisp. This unit really does work well, which is evidenced by the amount of dust and particulate it attracts in the filter. (The unit has a permanent HEPA, which you should vacuum every few months, but I vacuum it more frequently. It also has a replaceable pre-filter that has to be changed fairly often, and they’re a bit pricey. But it’s worth it for clean air.)
From the time we started running the Honeywell units, we noticed that the sneezing and sniffling in the house subsided considerably and my husband’s watery and itchy eyes cleared up dramatically. It’s amazing how well this cleans the air. You can get more expensive air cleaners and you can also get cheaper ones, but I think that this Honeywell does a good job for the price. It works best in a small to medium size room and is probably good if you can keep the door closed while running it. I do recommend it based on my experience.
Rated: 5 out of 5 Pros: Does a great job of cleaning the air Pleasant white noise for soothing sleep Cons: Replacement filters can be costly ($15-$20) Replacement filter can be hard to find. I order in bulk and online.
