Honeywell HCM 540

The humidifier is a solid piece of appliance. It is our second humidifier and it is much bigger than the original one we had. It comes with a remote control and a digital display. It also has a very big water container that holds up to 4 gallons of water. I was just using it this past March and April in Las Vegas where the weather was very dry and the humidifier did its job very quickly. Upon turning on the unit and setting the fan speed to 3, we felt the quality of the air change in as little as 20 minutes.

We used the unit in two room sizes - one was much larger with a high ceiling and one was a regular sized room. The unit worked well in both sizes on the number 2 setting. The 4 gallon container was also an advantage for the unit because we did not need to refill the humidifier frequently. On the 1 setting the water was more than enough for the entire night.

However, when we put the setting on 3 it did not last the entire evening until the next morning. Another thing I did not like about the unit was that the fan was noisy when the water was full and the setting was placed on 3 or high. At a lower setting and with less water the unit was much quieter.

I would rate this model a 4 because of the ability it had to immediately change the quality of air in the room and because of the size of the water container (thus the length of use before refilling).

The pros of the unit - the remote control made it very convenient to use, especially from bed when you wanted to change the fan setting - the water capacity of the container that made refilling less of a hassle

The cons of the unit - it was noisy when on the high setting with a full container - the water container was hard to fill up because of the placement of the opening
