Honeywell HCM 6009

This cool-mist humidifier works very well to add humidity to the whole house--particularly because we live in an extremely dry climate in Colorado. My husband and I first purchased the humidifier two and a half years ago to help alleviate our son's asthma and allergies, and it works very well. We purchased it at WalMart for around $130.
It is extremely quiet, and only needs to be filled once per day. It turns off automatically when optimal levels of humidity are reached in the house, which is another good feature to this humidifier. There are two down sides to this humidifier--there are two tanks which are awkward to fill and heavy when full. The other negative to this humidifier is that the replacement filters are really hard to find and extremely expensive. They can be purchased directly from Honeywell's website, but they charge a lot of money for shipping the replacement filters. I am not sure where I could find a replacement locally. Otherwise, it is a great little machine that certainly delivers on its promises.
If you are using this humidifier in order to add moisture to the air of an entire house, a relatively open floor plan is recommended. It sits on the floor or on a stand, and spews moisture into the air, which can travel throughout the house, but may be hindered by walls and doors. It is great for a large apartment, or a one level home. Otherwise, the gigantic size may be a little bit of overkill to just humidify one room. Be sure caps are screwed tightly onto water reservoirs, also, or you will have a soggy mess on your carpet from large amounts of water spilling out.
I would rate this 3.5 out of a possible 5 points--worth the money I spent on it and operates efficiently and quietly, but difficult to fill and find replacement filters for.
