Honeywell HHT-149 HEPAClean 99.9% HEPA Air Purifier
Bought this air purifier in May of 2009 and it runs for at least 5-6 hours a day minimum. This machine is a trooper. It just keeps filtering air, and filtering air, and filtering air. I have pets and prior to owning the Honeywell HHT-149 there would always be this lingering “pet odor”. After running the air purifier for a day the smells were gone. It is very powerful. It manages to suck all the bad air out of a decent sized room and replace it with ionized air. I am 50/50 on how much I use the ionizer. Comes standard with rotating base, ionizer, timer, adjustable fan speed. I didn't really notice that much if any of a power bill increase from using this unit. Which was surprising because of the amount of time the unit is on.
The unit is pretty quiet at half speeds or less. Crank it up any higher and you will get a pretty loud fan noise as the unit begins sucking in bad air with a vengeance. The minor inconvenience of the louder intake/exhaust noise is easily offset by the clean air that is pouring out of the machine. Some pros about this unit is that the led interface looks good and is very well laid out. The biggest pro about this unit is how well it does what it's supposed to do. Clean air. This monster sucks in the bad and shoots out good, clean air. Another pro that I have been impressed with is the ease of use. Because this purifier gets so much use the filters need to be cleaned more often than most, I would imagine. But the design team at Honeywell did a good job. The unit cleans up with a sponge and vacuum cleaner. Could not possibly be any easier. And no spare/replacement parts to buy. Ever. Awesome.
Some things that I did not like about the unit. It is pretty expensive. I believe I paid around 250 dollars for the unit. Weigh the initial cost against not having to buy filters and screens and it gets a little more palatable. But still. Ouch. My price point on a unit of this type would have been under 200 for me to have felt really good about buying it. Another minor con is that on full blast the unit can get pretty loud. If the air is so bad that you need the purifier running at full power – it will get noisy.
