Kenmore Air Conditioners Reviews
Feel the comfort, Breathe the quiet, Feel the Clean

Sears Holdings has its roots back in the 1880’s and has become one of the nations leading retailer of a wide range of household appliances. Sears is committed to providing quality services and products to their customers.
One of Sear’s key proprietary brand names is Kenmore, which itself boasts a long and distinguished history from their modest beginnings in 1913, to the present day, when almost one in every three American homes has one or more Kenmore appliances. Kenmore, a recognized and respected household name, has sought to be at the cutting edge of the appliance market, seeking to develop a range of convenient, energy efficiency domestic appliances with modern, stylish designs.
Air conditioners are just one of a wide range of Kenmore appliances, that are exclusively available through Sears’ department stores, retail outlets and online services.
KENMORE AIR CONDITIONER OVERVIEWKenmore has sought to produce a range of air conditioners that combine convenience, and stylish design with energy efficiency and the latest cutting-edge technology.
As a result they have designed a wide range of room air conditioners and multi-room units to satisfy the needs and expectations of their growing customer base.
Styles of air conditioners range from small ones for a little bedroom to massive ones, designed to heat a number or rooms at once.
Kenmore are justly pleased with their range of interesting features like their electronic touch-pads and wireless remote, the popular energy-saver, EZ-Out™ air filter, on/off timer and auto restart button, all of which combine to offer cost-effective home comfort and great performance at a reasonable price.
Kenmore’s range of air conditioners are generally considered window installation, even though they may be mounted through a wall. And even those that are identified as through-the-wall unit can often be window mounted, but may be certain adjustments or additional brackets to be installed. CATEGORIES OF KENMORE ROOM AIR CONDITIONERSKenmore have placed their range of air conditioners into FOUR groups, although there is some overlap within these groups:- LARGE CAPACITY UNITS; MULTI-ROOM UNITS; SPECIALITY UNITS and SINGLE ROOM UNITS.
1) LARGE CAPACITY UNITS 2) MULTI ROOM UNITS 3) SPECIALITY UNITSa) Multi-Room Heat/Cool Room Air Conditionerb) Thru-the-Wall Room Air Conditionerc) Sider/Casement4) SINGLE ROOM UNITS LARGE CAPACITY UNITS Large capacity units are for a single room only.
They are not designed or described as a Multi-room unit, although it is possible they may be used for this purpose.
Large capacity units are identified in the product specification (type and size) as being unit from 16,000-BTUs to 29,000-BTUs.
There are only a few models in the Large Capacity Unit series. MULTI ROOM UNITS Multi-room units are designed to cool more that just a single room.
Multi-room units are identified in the product specification (in the section on type and size) as being unit from 11,000-BTUs to 15,000-BTUs.
NOTE : Speciality Units (see below) between 11,000-BTUs to 15,000-BTUs MAY or MAY NOT also be identified as Multi-Room Units. SPECIALITY UNITS ANY air conditioner that falls into the following categories are all listed among the Speciality Units:-
1. Heat and Cool Units2. Thru-The-Wall Units3. Sider Casement UnitsHeat and Cool Speciality units from 11,000 to 15,000-BTUs are ALSO classed as Multi-Room Units. HOWEVER Sider Casement Speciality units from 11,000 to 15,000-BTUs are NOT classed as Multi-Room Units. SINGLE ROOM UNITS Single-Room Units are designed to cool just a single room.
Single room units are identified in the product specification (type and size) as being unit from 5000 - 10,000 BTUs. MOST POPULAR FEATURES OF KENMORE AIR CONDITIONERS AIRFLOW - 2-WAY : 4-WAY : 8-WAY : MULTI-WAY The airflow comes through the top or side of the unit and is generally a 2-way directional airflow or a 4-way directional airflow.
On certain models there may be an 8-way directional airflow, where the louvers grill is angled in the middle to double the directional airflow – this is sometimes referred to as Multi-directional airflow.
Moving one or more levers left or right causes the vertical louvers to alter their directional angle, while moving a lever up and down causes the horizontal louvers to shift direction of the airflow.
AUTO-RESTART SAFETY BUTTON This is a safety feature which is used should there be a power outage or brownout which causes the unit to stop working.
This restarts the unit, once power is restored.
COOLING (HEATING) CAPACITYThis is the main measurement of how much cooling (heating) power an air conditioner has.
Cooling (heating) capacity is measured in and is measured in British Thermal Unit per hour (BTU/hr). ‘British Thermal Unit per hour’ is generally shortened to just BTUs.
Room and Multi-room air conditioners range in capacity from about 5,000 BTUs to about 30,000 BTUs.
ENERGY STAR® COMPLIANCEAn appliance carrying the ENERGY STAR® logo indicates that the unit is truly energy efficient, helping to lower fuel bills, protecting against cold, moisture, pollution, and noise and helping protect the environment.
An ENERGY STAR® compliant unit is at least 10 percent more energy-efficient than the minimum federal standards.
ENERGY STAR® is a system that is sponsored by the federal government and provides better protection against cold, moisture, pollution, and noise.
In certain states customers with ENERGY STAR® appliances may apply for a rebate.
DEHUMIDIFICATION Dehumidification is the reduction of any water vapor in the air.
Dehumidification has many advantages as humid air causes things like mold and mildew to grow and can cause a variety of health risks.High humidity can cause a very uncomfortable living environment.
As an air conditioner cools the air temperature the unit automatically acts as a dehumidifier.
The condensing coil and fan of air conditioners act together to evaporate away any accumulated water.
TIMERThe 12-Hour Timer is a useful addition but is only a 12 rather than a 24-hour timer.
It has a further disadvantage of only jumping forward in hour increments with each press of the timer pad. The timer cannot be controlled to move backwards.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY RATIO An Energy Efficiency Ratio is calculated for all air conditioners and major appliances.
It is reached by dividing the British Thermal Units (BTUs) by the number of watts it draws.
The more efficient the appliance, the higher the EER number.
ELECTRONIC TOUCH PAD CONTROLS The pads give fingertip control in selecting the ideal comfort level in your home from the specified options.
Always a popular choice – the one disadvantage of some control pads is that the smooth touchpad surface makes it difficult to locate the right place to press in the dark or at nighttime.
ENERGY SAVER Energy-Saver is very popular feature, which cools the air, while not using a lot of power.
The unit is pre-set to cycles the fan off and back on every 5 minutes or so, while the compressor kicks in after about 20 minutes.
This maintains a comfortably, cool temperature while reducing costs by saving precious energy.
E-Z OUT PERMANENT FILTER As air conditioners circulate cool air, a filter is necessary to trap any airborne filaments and dust particles. However the trapped particles need to be regularly cleaned to maintain tip-top performance.
The EZ-Out™ reusable slide-out air filter is considered a ‘lifetime’ filter, which has been designed to simplify the necessary chore of filter cleaning and maintenance.
The EZ-Out™ filter reduces airborne particles, bacteria a and lingering room odors, giving a much more comfortable environment in general and much appreciated relief for asthma suffers.
NOTE SOME FILTERS ARE TREATED WITH ANTI-MICROBIAL. HOWEVER THE CHEMICALS USED CAN CAUSE HARM TO AQUATIC LIFE IF ALLOWED TO ENTER RIVERS AND STREAMS DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS – AND ARE THUS BEST AVOIDED.
.12 HOUR ON/OFF TIMERThere are generally two types of timers on Kenmore air conditioners.
1 The 12-Hour Timer can be used as a useful convenience to delay the start or stop time. Some customers would have preferred a 24-hour rather than a 12-hour timer as option are restricted. 2 The Four-Step Timer is a preset with only four settings: -1 hour, 3 hours, 6 hours or 10 hoursBoth have many advantages over a unit that is without a timer, but have less choices that a 24-hour time.
LOW PROFILE DESIGN Low profile air conditioners designs are becoming increasing popular as customer want to leave behind the old-fashioned, cumbersome air conditioning systems of the past.
Low Profile design units are smaller, lower, flatter and more stylish than most window air conditioners.
They also take up far less window space than most other models, allowing more natural light through the window.
MULTI-ROOM UNIT Most air conditioners are called ‘Room’ air conditioners because they are designed for one room.
However the Kenmore Multi-Room air conditioner is simply designed for more that one room.
All of their Multi-Room air conditioners are part of Kenmore’s “Speciality” range of units.
Some of these Multi-Room units have other special features such as Heat/Cool Units; Sider/Casement Units; Thru-the-Wall Units.
PLASM-AIRE HEAT EXCHANGERThis is a special air purification feature on a limited number of Kenmore air conditioners.
The hear exchanger in the units is given a specially treated ‘plasma’ coating.
This treatment produces greater air purification and air freshness than is normal and is particularly beneficial to allergy sufferers.
REMOTE CONTROL A wireless, hand-held remote is a great advantage with electronically operated units as selection can be made at a distance, independently of the main touch pad controls or without the need to move.
It is important to realize that NOT ALL the electronically operated units from the Kenmore range come with a remote control, as some customers have assumed resulting in their being disappointed - so it needs to be checked out.
If a remote is listed in the specification it means it comes as an integral part of the purchased product.
