Kenmore Model# 580.54701500 Dehumidifier

Our basement consistently had a damp and moldy smell. We bought two Kenmore model# 580.54701500 dehumidifiers in hopes of ridding the basement of the smell.
The Kenmore is easy to setup; just remove the plastic wrapping, make sure the 22 pint capacity container is correctly seated in the dehumidifier, and plug it in.
Although we knew that the basement was damp, we were astounded at the amount of moisture that was pulled from the air in the first 24 hours. We filled two containers of water! The damp and moldy smell was greatly reduced after just a few days.
Pros:
* Removes moisture from the air very quickly.
* There are easy to use controls that allow you to control the frequency that the unit turns on and the speed at which it runs.
* The dehumidifiers turn themselves off when they are full so you don't have to worry about overflow.
* Adjustable %humidity
Cons:
* Loud when running. This can be controlled somewhat by adjusting the unit to turn on every 3 or 6 hours rather than continuous operation.
* The water containers fill to the brim and spill easily when carrying them. The containers are also a little bit difficult to empty without spilling a bit.
Overall I recommend these units if noise is not a big factor. Our units have run continuously for more than a year with no problems encountered at all.
