LG WINDOW-TYPE AIR CONDITIONER, MODEL LWHD1800R

by Ginny
(Key West, FL)

Air-conditioning is extremely important to me, as I live in the tropics on an island in the path of hurricanes that come up through the Caribbean. In July of 2005, when the GE window air-conditioner I was using to cool my three-room apartment broke down, I went back to the store from which I had purchased it in order to buy a replacement.

I had been buying GE products my entire adult life and was always very satisfied with them. I found that the store had gone out of business and so I went to the local Home Depot and purchased the LG right away, since it was July, very hot and humid, and I wanted cooling as soon as possible.

I had made an opening in the living room wall to hold the GE unit, so I did not have to use a window for it. Fortunately, the LG unit fit nicely into the same opening. It is now four years later and the LG unit has been working very efficiently ever since.

I like the fact that, besides the cooling mode, it has several modes that include a fan operation for basic ventilating. The energy saving mode uses the remote control sensor to stop and start the unit to save energy and also will keep the room cooled at the set temperature.

The fan has three different speeds of high, medium and low. A temperature read out shows at which temperature the unit is set to cool. There is an on/off timer.

This can start and stop the unit in hourly increments for up to 12 hours, if needed. The LG unit has kept my entire apartment cool, which includes a large combination living room/den/kitchen, bathroom and bedroom.

I am very satisfied with its initial cost, energy efficiency, and dependability thus far. The best thing I can say about it is that, when this one eventually needs to be replaced, I have no hesitancy about getting another LG.
