Royal Sovereign 10,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner

by Grace
(Florida)

I bought the Royal Sovereign portable air conditioning about a year ago when I moved into my Florida home. I placed it in the living room because I came to find that the central air conditioning wasn’t enough to air condition the entire living room. This portable air conditioner gets the job done and is wonderful. I purchased it for about $420 off of the Wal-Mart website and have been pleased ever since.

The slim and compact style it has attracts less attention to it which is great. I don’t like the big and bulky portable air conditioners that attract all the attention to them. Another thing that made this portable air conditioner very efficient and convenient was the fact that I don’t have to empty the buckets of water at the end of the day. When I purchased it I was told over the phone that it has a self evaporative technology that eliminates having to empty the tank everyday.

The thing that really bugs me about this air conditioner is the noise. It’s very loud at the start up and when it runs. I run it all day just giving it a few 15 minute rests in between. The noise gets unbearable and I have to leave the room. The timer that the unit has only works with one hour. But the timer isn’t a problem for me because I have it on the entire day.

Overall, it does a great job of removing the heat from the room and venting it outside through the exhaust hose. I actually think it does a better job of taking the heat out of the room compared to my central air conditioning system. The assembly for this portable air conditioner wasn’t bad at all. My husband and I put it together and set it up in about an hour. It also comes with a small remote to turn it on and off and control it from a distance which is great.

Great air flow
by: Anonymous

The Royal Sovereign Portable air conditioner is very handy. We were looking into buying a house and saw the previous owner had this, and we looked at it thoroughly, it was putting off great air flow, it was only on fan at that time, but it was easily in tact. The hose from the air conditioner goes straight to the window attachment and you do not have to put the air condition in the window.

We bought this it was over 500.00 with tax, and well worth it, we bought it a year ago now, and it has several options on it which I like. Fan, Dry, and Cool. You also have 3 choices of High, Medium, and Low, Now also too, you can change the temperature as well to what you want. It comes with everything you need, and has wheels, so it is very easy to move around.

We currently have this in the dining room, and it sits perfect in the corner, you can move it out if you want, and there is nothing permanently in place so you can take it and place it in any window you want and its easy to do!
We get a lot of humidity here, and I find putting this on dry helps keep it cool, and dies the humidity in our room. It does have a 10,000 BTU which is great!

I would have to say the only thing I don’t like but it is nothing harmful, and well expected when the humidity is super high, often it will show moisture by the open area and just wipe it up. Otherwise it works great for us.

I would honestly recommend this air conditioner over a window one for a few reasons, the mobility firstly so you can change rooms if you would like. The fact that you do not have to worry about putting it into the window so animals can sit on it out there, no leaves blowing into it, it wont get dirty, And when you have windows low to the ground instead of having to worry someone can easily push it in and break in, this is small and you can not push it in and break in unless you don’t lock the window on top. Just screw in a screw or 1 at the top and no worries!

Multi-directional vents are great
by: Susan D

I own a house in the mid-Atlantic area that has central air conditioning that works well. However, I have a home office with three computers and other electronic equipment that pretty much stays on all the time. So for nine months out of the year, that room gets very warm, even with the central A/C cranked up.

At first, I installed an exhaust fan in the wall that dumped the hot air into a hallway, but it only minimally helped. So on the advice of a friend, I bought a portable air conditioning unit to help keep the room and equipment cool.

I did some research online and realized that this probably was not going to be a perfect solution, since portable units have many drawbacks. However, I really didn’t have much choice, since I needed to spend time in this room and it was turning into a sauna during the warmer months. So I ended up with a Royal Sovereign ARP1000ES.

I had never heard of Royal Sovereign before and frankly, I was a bit apprehensive about buying it. The price was around $500 at Sears and I also purchased an extended warranty for another $100 or thereabouts.

First of all, this unit surprised the heck out of me. My office is about 180 square feet and this portable Royal Sovereign really cools it down in a hurry. It also dehumidifies the air, so working in my office is a pleasure. Frankly, it is the most comfortable room in the house. It really works great, but there are some drawbacks, but I can certainly live with them.

Secondly, the unit is quite heavy. Yes, it’s portable, but it’s also a bit clunky. It’s also noisier than I would like, but the rest of my electronics also hum and whir, so this air conditioner just becomes part of the background noise.

It comes with a remote, so you can control the unit from anywhere in the room. And there’s a timer, so you can program it to turn on in the morning and turn off in the evening for energy savings. I noticed that my electricity bill is not that much higher since I’ve been running the unit, so it is pretty energy efficient.

There are three speeds for the cooling function and three fan speeds. The vents are multi-directional, so you can divert the air where it is needed most. That is great for my stuffy office when the equipment is whirring.

All in all this was a great buy. I haven’t had any maintenance issues and have been very pleased with the Sovereign’s performance. I would buy this brand again.
