Pros - extremely quiet. I cannot hear it when I stand at the top of the basement stairs; I have to walk downstairs to see if the red light is on or not.
Cons - If the power goes out, the unit will NOT turn back on automatically. - It's not Energy Star rated. It is only 330W though, which is much less than other similarly sized models

Despite our humid basement (which on other brands had a constant trickle down the drain), this machine has produced not one drop of liquid in the pail (we took off the hose to see if it did anything; it did not).
Also, at the second home, which goes weeks without visitors and where the electricity will go off for a few minutes every week or so, the machine stops; a person has to be there to restart it after an electrical interruption.
All in all, about the worst product of any kind I have ever bought."

When the rainy season starts in the midst of summer, it can become extremely humid and uncomfortable indoors. That damp and sticky feeling leave you helpless and sweaty. The air is over saturated with moisture. Even during the cold months, the air is saturated with moisture making it uncomfortable and damp. To ward off the discomfort due to the excessive moisture in the air, there is a need to install a dehumidifier.
Dehumidifiers basically pass the air saturated with moisture over chilled coils which condense the moisture and it drips into a tank. This makes the air free from moisture and make is dry thus adding to the comfort and removing that sticky feeling.
I bought the Soleus CFM-40 Dehumidifier for use in my home and office at a very reasonable cost of $140 each. It is a very simple device and is very effective. $140 it is worth the cost for the comfort that you get by using it. It is a cute little device on wheels with a carrying handle on top for ease of moving about. Its operation is very quiet and it can hardly be heard. Sometimes you tend to think that it has stopped, but it still is running and doing its work with efficiency.
Since we installed the Soleus, it has become a pleasure sitting and working in the office. The adjustable humidistat can be used to set the humidity level as per your need. I invariably set it at the highest level as I like a nice an dry atmosphere.
The air passes through a filter so a lot of dust particles are also removed from the air. The filter can be removed and washed to keep is unclogged. The only shortcoming is that the tank gets full and has to be emptied once a day, but I am thinking of installing a drain pipe along the wall so that it empties out automatically.
