Tempstar

by Kristi
(London KY)

My husband and I presently own a Tempstar heat pump/AC unit which was purchased in 2004 while we were building our new house. It is great! In the 4 years since we purchased it, there have been no real problems.

However, we did recently have to replace some sort of relay switch component (I don't remember the exact piece) which cost $85.00 (including labor) because it had burnt out. I have to say I would recommend this brand of air conditioner for its quality and longevity.

I would also recommend it for its lack of necessary upkeep. My husband is not the most conscientious guy when it comes to upkeep so the fact that this is the only problem we have had in four years of ownership completely amazes me.

The price for this AC was also quite reasonable as we only paid $4,500.00 at the time of installation for the labor, equipment, etc. It is also very cost-effective.

During the summer months our electric bill generally only runs about $103.00 for a 3000 sq. foot house (including full basement) and the house is always very cool.

In fact, too cool for my tastes sometimes but just right for the hubby.

Tempstar
by: AndyNTexas

Im an electrical engineer and I had two new 3 ton Tempstar HVAC systems installed in 2005. They worked great for 3 years then I started having problems with the boards in 2008. Maintenance was costing me $800 to $1000 a year. I could not understand why the system kept failing. It looked like it was well built and they are very simple units. Then in 2010 I was laid off from work and with no job prospects I decided to take 4 classes at San Jacinto College and get my HVAC Tech license in the state of Texas. Well, I learned a lot - plus I got my Texas HVAC Refrigeration license, my EPA license and hands-on training. And what I learned will shock you. Air Cool a contractor in Pasadena, Texas who installed my system for $8,500 in 2005 had sabotaged the circuit boards twice a year. In the winter they sabotaged the cooling system and in the summer they sabotaged the heating system. So I had to call them out for servive twice a year for repairs. That is why they came out for repairs costing me $400 to $500 twice a year. After I learned to fix the system I never had another problem. My Tempstar units work wonderfully. The HVAC industry is a scam like transmission service businesses. Tempstar is just as good as any other HVAC system. Companies do not make bad products to rip off consumers, but HVAC techs will rob you and blame others.

TEMPSTAR IS NOTHING BUT JUNK
by: JOHNNY BELK

I BOUGHT A TEMPSTAR HEAT PUMP WHEN I BUILT MY NEW HOME IN 1993. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THE ENTIRE SYSTEM FROM DAY ONE. THE SYSTEM IS MADE UP OF TWO SEPARATE UNITS; ONE UPSTAIRS AND ONE DOWNSTAIRS. THIS TEMPSTAR SYSTEM HAS COST ME HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS IN REPAIR BILLS, NOT TO MENTION THE INCREASE IN MY POWER BILLS WHEN THE "PILE OF JUNK" MALFUNCTIONS.

I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER TEMPSTAR AS LONG AS I LIVE.
