Zenith ZW5000, window model

Well I recently bought a zenith zw5000 from the local home depot in Chicago. It was on sale for $99 dollars and I decided to give it a go. I was trying to cool a 12x15 office that had a ceiling fan in it. I figured that for the price listed that it might be a little under powered and not the 5000 BTUs that it said it was. Still 2500 BTU cooled the room before and I was happy with it.
The old one decided to go on the blink. I got the thing home and decided to let it sit for a day cause god knows what happened to it at the store. For a quick tip do this always with ANY thing that cools. AC, Fridge, Freezer, Etc. This is mainly due to if it was flipped wrong during shipping and made the compressor fluid move, there is a chance that the thing might burn out.
I put the unit in the window with a bit of issue due to the flaps did move very good to close the gap on the sides, that was my own fault. So I plugged it in and it blew the fuse right off the bat. Which is weird because the outlet was wired for 40 connections; box said it pulled 15-20. So I took it back figuring I got a bad unit, which I did.
I plugged in the new unit and it worked….sort of. It was cold yes, but it was on all the time like it couldn’t get the room cool enough. It dropped the room temp a bit but still didn’t make me happy, and no, I didn’t want it like 50 in 90 degree weather. It being 72 was okay with me and it failed at that. So after trying a couple days to let it work itself into working order it died badly.
So let’s just say I took the thing back and got my money back after reaming out a few managers at the store. Don’t buy this piece of junk. Thank you and have a nice day.
Pros
- it was cheap
Cons
- it didn't work...at all
